Lecture and Artist's talk by the artist in residence Maral Mohammadi

 Die iranische Dokumentarfilmerin und interdisziplinäre Künstlerin Maral Mohammadi (*1993) wird in
Weimar in ihrer Arbeit The House We Carried die Überschneidung von persönlicher und kollektiver Ge-
schichte, das Fremde und Fremdsein im Verhältnis zur eigenen Herkunft untersuchen. Anhand von Ar-
chivmaterial, Video und Ton erforscht sie die fragilen Verbindungen zwischen Erinnerung, Identität und
der Idee von Heimat — wie ein Zuhause durch das Wegziehen oder vielleicht Vertriebenwerden idealisiert
wird. Als erste Stipendiatin des 31. Internationalen Atelierprogramms der ACC Galerie Weimar und Stadt
Weimar wird sie vom Februar bis Mai 2025 im Städtischen Atelierhaus Weimar die Erzählungen, die wir
über Heimat haben, das Phänomen der falschen Erinnerung und ihren Einfluss darauf, wie Menschen
die Orte rekonstruieren, die sie zurückgelassen haben, ergründen. Wie erinnern wir uns an unsere Hei-
mat, wenn wir weit von ihr entfernt sind? Erinnert uns die Heimat daran, wer wir waren? Wie verzerrt
Migration unsere Erinnerungen und Wahrnehmungen von Heimat? Wie stellt sie die Verlässlichkeit von
Bildern — sowohl mentalen als auch physischen — in Frage?

In her work The House We Carried, Iranian documentary filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist Maral Mohammadi (*1993) will examine the intersection of personal and collective history, the foreign and being foreign in relation to one's own origins. Using archive material, video and sound, she explores the fragile connections between memory, identity and the idea of home - how a home is idealized by moving away or perhaps being displaced. As the first artist in residence of the 31st International Studio Program of the ACC Galerie Weimar and the City of Weimar, she will be exploring the narratives we have about home, the phenomenon of false memory and its influence on how people reconstruct the places they have left behind at the Städtisches Atelierhaus Weimar from February to May 2025. How do we remember our homeland when we are far away from it? Does home remind us of who we were? How does migration distort our memories and perceptions of home? How does it challenge the reliability of images - both mental and physical?
